Alain Dantinne

Alain Dantinne, born on October 11, 1951, in Namur, is a Belgian writer. The title of his first collection, “Je n’ai jamais été à Iquitos,” can be seen as provocative in the context of a certain literature of travel and in relation to a certain vision of poetry. This collection reflects a rather free and unconventional writing style, inspired by numerous other authors, especially traveling poets such as Larbaud, Cendrars, Thiry, and Daniel Biga.

Since 2001, following a personal crisis, he has fully committed himself to writing, publishing his third collection, “De Consolation poétique,” followed by four other works, including “L’Exil intérieur,” “Décalage horaire,” “Précis d’incertitude,” and “Chemins de nulle part,” released in September 2023. His publisher, L’Herbe qui tremble, recently published an anthology of his texts, written between 1979 and 2011, under the title “Amour quelque part est le nom d’un fleuve” (2020). Close to poetry, he also explores aphorisms, with works such as “Petit catéchisme à l’usage des désenchantés” (2009), published by Finitude editions, and two collections of aphorisms published by Voix d’encre in 2017 and 2022, to name a few. Alain Dantinne is also the author of novels and short stories, including an “ardennais” narrative for the collection “Plumes du coq” and “Brise de mère” published by the editions Weyrich. In 2023, also with Weyrich, a collection of short stories titled “Une gravure satanique” was released. An essay on education and a travelogue, “Patagonia et cætera,” extend this writing work, which now includes over twenty books.

Alain Dantinne will share his poetic vision and literary heritage from March 18 to April 27, 2024, in residence at the neimënster, with the support of Wallonia Brussels International.
